George Lucas is really storming away from Star Wars, angrily ranting all the way. Lucas recently discussed his intention of ‘retiring from blockbusters,’ as well as from Star Wars movies, as if he ever was going to make any more. He essentially blamed fans and critics for the latter decision, citing that they’re all basically too mean to him, so there’s no reason for him to make any more Star Wars movies.
Well, now, for some reason, Lucas felt the need to stomp all over fans some more, with The Hollywood Reporter. In this article, Lucas is asked how he feels about movie fanatics. He opens by commenting “Well, it’s not a religious event. I hate to tell people that. It’s a movie, just a movie.” No argument there. I agree there are people that take some things, like Star Wars, way too seriously. However, at the same time, I think this still helps demonstrate that Lucas really just does not understand his fans, and doesn’t understand the impact the movies have had in film, and in popular culture. While they are indeed ‘just movies,’ at the same time, they are not. The man just doesn’t get it.
Lucas then continues and decides to bring up an old controversy; ‘Han Shot First.’ However, he really takes this in a bizarre new direction.

Shigeru Miyamoto recently shared some thoughts about his new responsibilities at Nintendo, having been given a bit of a role change, recently.
“I am acting with the understanding that one big hit title can change… a situation in the entertainment business. And I feel that finding such one big hit is my basic job,” he described.
Additionally, “The basic idea is, I’m reminding myself to exercise patience. I end up using less of my energy and, as a result, I am starting to have time that I can spend for myself…. I am spending more time than before on finding new ideas for new developments rather than focusing my energy on work in my (development) teams in order to solidify the contents of (existing) franchise titles.” He also expresses the belief that Nintendo has reached “the stage where quality software titles with a high completion level have been developed without [his] active involvement.”
No doubt all of this is true, and Nintendo tends to have strong first-party games already, and generally, that’s their strongest point, and probably always will be.
While Miyamoto focuses on this though, I hope Nintendo also keeps in mind that they need to have strong third party support on all of their systems too, and makes sure that ‘big hit titles’ can come from them, too. Here’s hoping that the Wii U is as ‘easy’ to develop for as Team Ninja recently assessed.
